Commission

Painted to your wall, not cropped to it.

When nothing in the catalogue is quite the right size, or quite the right colour, the studio paints it. Same hand, same materials, same thirty years — to your dimensions and your scheme.

Bespoke sizes

Painted to your dimensions. Long corridor panels, tall stairwell drops, oversized lobby squares — proportions the catalogue does not carry.

B

Colourway matching

Send a scheme, a fabric, a paint reference or a photograph of the room. The studio works to the palette rather than against it.

C

Matching sets

Companion works for repeated room types — related, not identical, so a set of twelve reads as one commission rather than a print run.

How it runs

Five steps, five to seven weeks.

A commission is a conversation with a painter, conducted through us. You will see progress before anything ships, and nothing is charged in full until you have approved it.

  • 1 · Brief

Wall dimensions, the scheme, the mood, and any reference — an existing piece from the catalogue is the easiest starting point. A photograph of the actual wall helps more than a mood board.

  • 2 · Quote

Fixed price in sterling covering the painting, import, framing, delivery and installation. Deposit taken on acceptance.

  • 3 · Studio

Bao paints. You get photographs at the underpainting stage and again on completion, before the work leaves Kata-Karon.

  • 4 · Approval

Sign off from the photographs. Adjustments at this stage are part of the process, not a change order.

  • 5 · Finish & fit

Shipped rolled, framed in the UK, delivered, hung and levelled. Balance falls due on installation.

A commission is not a print with your colours applied. It is the same painter, standing at the same easel, working to your wall instead of his own.

What to send

Wall width and height in centimetres, plus the drop from ceiling and anything the piece has to clear. The scheme — paint codes, fabric references, a photograph of the room in its actual light. And a reference from the catalogue, which is the fastest way to communicate a hand and a palette without a thousand words.

What we will tell you honestly

Whether a specific existing piece can be reproduced in an alternate colourway is something we are still confirming with the artist. Until it is confirmed, listings show that field as On request rather than implying a yes. New work to a supplied palette is not in question — that is simply how the studio works.
